Changes

Life brings changes, some good, some not so good, and some… monumental. Yesterday was one of those monumental days. A day that has been in the works for years, 14 in fact. You see, yesterday was the day I moved my daughter to her dorm room at IU Indianapolis.

To say that her journey to IU was bumpy would be an understatement. Her high school career was marked by the Covid global pandemic, and her grades showed that. Then, her dad got ill her senior year. At that point it was more important for her to spend time with him, because his time was short. She could always go to the local community college to get her GPA up and then transfer to a 4 year university.

And, that is what she did.

She spent the past 2 years at Ivy Tech Community College, working on a Associates degree in Fine Arts. What is so great about that program is that it is designed by Indiana University’s Heron School of Art, and feeds into their 2 plus 2 program. That is, 2 years at Ivy Tech and then transfer into the Heron School of Art for the final two years.
At Ivy Tech, Bekah excelled, not just academically, but socially. She found her circle. People she fit with. She loved every minute of her time at Ivy Tech and graduated with honors, and was admitted to the National Honors Fraternity for community colleges.

So, yesterday was the day that she has been working towards, starting the next part of her journey into adulthood. It was a very long day, starting at 8:30am. We worked all day, getting her room set up, organized, and decorated. It matches her personality perfectly… shades of pink, yellow, and white. Or as she says, it’s very Glindafied!

Leaving last night was hard. Harder than I expected, for both her and I. But, I am so proud of Bekah for all that she has accomplished, and I know she will do amazing things in her life, and completely enjoy the college experience!
